Reading Qiao Yan's blog totally reminded me of something.
Much to Joanne's chagrin, the only thing I've been able to remember from the Paper 5 lecture notes is: "To dash ... [is] used as a euphemism for 'damn', or as a kind of verbal imprecation". Just one stanza from 520, to illustrate my point. From: I started Early - Took my Dog - And visited the Sea - The Mermaids in the Basement Came out to look at me - To: I started Early (damn!) Took my Dog (damn!) And visited the Sea (damn!) The Mermaids in the Basement Came out to look at me (damn!) Well, certainly the grammatical structure is a bit odd now (shouldn't the first two lines go like "I started damn early, took my damn dog and visited the damn sea?) But LOL I'M SORRY JOANNE (if you read this.) Naturally the dash has a multitude of other uses, but this is the one I remember the most. xD Zi Yan's potato story far pwns my ~damn dog at the damn sea~ story though. Go read go read! Qiao Yan's blog at the side~~ -- If you were coming in the Fall, I'd brush the Summer by With half a smile, and half a spurn, As Housewives do, a Fly. Not in the fall, not in the summer. 십일후로. 떨려요 ㅠㅠㅠ |
